What is therapeutic ultrasound?

Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment modality that uses sound-wave energy delivered through a handheld applicator to a selected area of the body.

A coupling gel is applied to the skin and the ultrasound applicator is moved over the area being treated. Treatment settings and application may vary depending on the selected treatment approach.

At Gisborne Osteopathy, therapeutic ultrasound may be incorporated as one component of a broader osteopathic treatment and management plan where clinically appropriate.
