What is Interferential Therapy?

Interferential therapy is a treatment modality that uses electrical currents delivered through electrodes placed on the skin.

Electrodes are positioned around a selected area and connected to an electrotherapy device. The treatment settings and electrode placement may vary depending on the area being treated and the selected treatment approach.

At Gisborne Osteopathy, interferential therapy may be incorporated as one component of a broader osteopathic treatment and management plan where clinically appropriate.

What should i expect from treatment?

Electrode pads are placed on the skin around the selected treatment area before the interferential therapy device is activated.

During treatment, you may notice a tingling or pulsing sensation beneath or around the electrodes. The intensity is adjusted according to the treatment approach and your response.

Your osteopath will explain the proposed treatment and assess whether interferential therapy is appropriate for your presentation before proceeding.
